The first time I saw this masterpiece from the water was when my friend and I were approaching on a boat that runs from one stop to another around the lake, on the way from Bellagio. I saw an incredible tree in the park, which stood out against the background of the green massif, with its amazing crown, trimmed in the form of a huge umbrella. A huge living sculpture, as the whole garden surrounding it, and the complex of buildings - struck me to the very heart. I stood stock-still, with my mouth open. At that moment I did not know anything about this villa - who was its owner, what century it was, whether it was possible to visit it - nothing. I just realised that by all means I must get to know it better. It turned out the villa is open as a museum and anyone can visit it. Every architectural masterpiece like this has its own story: personalities, events, passion, love for their land, the desire to leave their mark on history. So it is in this case. The villa was built on a cape near Lenno in an absolute isolation at the point where two bays meet - the Gulf of Venus and the Gulf of Diana. The first owner of the villa was Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, who turned it into a magnificent work of architecture in the middle of the 18th century, calling it Villa Balbianello. After the death of the cardinal in 1796, the villa passed to different owners, being for them and their guests an incredible place of strength and inspiration. In the 20th century, the villa was taken over by American magnates from Boston named Ames, who used it as a summer residence. There was a period when the villa was inherited by the family that could not financially maintain the property and the house and garden fell into decay. Since, according to the will, this villa could not be sold within 20 years from the date of the death of the american owner, it was in complete disrepair. The new owners were not particularly happy with such a gift, and were looking forward to getting rid of it. And finally in 1974 the villa was sold.The new owner, aristocrat, magnate, philanthropist, traveler named Guido Monzini purchased this villa. This character in me caused a special admiration. In addition to his incredible organisational skills, which helped him develop a chain of supermarkets throughout Italy and become one of the richest people in the country, he was an extreme sportsman - avid rock climber. He was always uncomfortable in his aristocratic circle and therefore he found simple human communication, climbing with just such simple people who taught him their skills and abilities, told him about the secrets of survival in conditions of cold and high altitude. He fell in love with them and their way of life so much that he offered them to finance expeditions and go together to conquer the world's peaks. As a result, he organised and financed twenty-two expeditions and brought from them an incredible amount of artefacts that formed the basis of the museum. Unfortunately, Guido Monzini lived a short life. He was only in his sixties when he had a heart attack. Maybe the consequences of the expeditions, maybe it's because he smoked pipe a lot. One way or another, he managed to write a will. Since he did not have his own children and wife, he did not want to leave his property to relatives. His logic was this: if I leave it to relatives, then the maximum after the second generation, the entire collection will be sold at the auction, his life's work will cease to exist. Therefore, he bequeathed this villa to an Italian foundation, but made several conditions: the villa and garden, as well as the collection, must be kept in their original condition: the garden must be well maintained, the collection must be kept in the museum the exact way he left it there, furniture and objects interiors must be kept in their original condition. Thanks to this, now there is an opportunity to visit and see this beautiful place, enjoy the views and pay tribute to human devotion and interests. In my opinion, people like Guido deserve special admiration and the memory of them, along with the world that they left behind, always remains with us, because they are the brightest representatives of the human race, the locomotives thanks to which we all develop and move forward .

Оказалось, что вилла действует как музей и ее могут посетить все кто пожелает. За каждым таким архитектурным шедевром стоит своя история: личности, события, страсть, любовь к своей земле, желание оставить свой след в истории. Так и в этом случае. Вилла была построена на мысе недалеко от Ленно в абсолютном уединение в том месте где встречаются два залива: Залив Венеры и Залив Дианы. Первым владельцем виллы был кардинал Анджело Мария Дурини, который превратил ее в середине XVIII века в роскошное произведение архитектуры, назвав ее Вилла Бальбьянелло. После смерти кардинала в 1796 году, вилла переходила разным хозяевам, являясь для них и их гостей невероятным местом силы и вдохновения. Ему было всего чуть за шестьдесят, когда его настиг инфаркт. Может последствия экспедиций, может это от того, что он много курил трубку. Так или иначе он успел написать завещание. Поскольку у него не было своих детей и жены, он не хотел завещать свое имущество родственникам. Его логика была такова: если я завещаю родственникам - то максимум после второго покаления, вся коллекция будет продана с молотка, дело его жизни перестанет существовать. Поэтому он завещал эту виллу итальянскому фонду, но поставил несколько условий: вилла и сад, также как и коллекция должны содержаться в своем оригинальном состоянии: сад должен быть ухожен, коллекция храниться в музее в том виде в котором он ее там оставил, мебель и предметы интерьера должны сохраниться в их оригинальном состоянии. Благодаря этому сейчас есть возможность посетить и увидеть это прекрасное место, насладиться видами и отдать дань человеческой преданности своим интересам. На мой взгляд такие люди, как Гуидо заслуживают особого восхищения и того чтобы память о них, вместе с тем миром, которые они оставили после себя всегда оставалась с нами, ведь они -ярчайшие представители рода человеческого, локомотивы благодаря которым мы все развиваемся и движемся вперед.
